    Exclamation Alcohol Taxing

    Alcohol taxation proposals

Well I am finally completely and utterly convinced the UK Government is totally corrupt, completely naive and inept and the non voted in, so called "Prime Minister" Gordon Browns Government are imbeciles of the highest order!

I cannot believe how stupid the UK governments alcohol taxation proposals I just saw on the TV are!

The proposals on taxation on alcohol, supposedly to kerb binge and under age drinking are a complete and utter farce. Do the UK government not remember America and the prohibition laws they imposed that backfired so badly?

Do the imbeciles that supposedly represent the voting public in The House of Commons not realise they will merely create a larger black market of cheaper and possibly dodgy unregulated perhaps even dangerous alcoholic beverages?

The proposed taxation on alcohol planned by the present UK Labour Government are merely a way to try and make more money from taxes IMHO and nothing more than a sham.

This will not solve any binge drinking problems nor help kerb under age drinking as it will merely drive people to find cheaper alternatives in the main and those that do pay the legal price in the shops and supermarkets are being penalised by a Government that to my mind are adding a tax to alcohol telling us one thing whilst reality is it is just a way for them to squeeze the general public out of even more money than they already do.

Britain should be very proud of their Government and the Prime Minsiter everyone voted in - LOL what a joke. Britian spout off about democracy to others and yet did anyone vote Gordon Brown in to be Pime Minister?

No not one person did, yet we are stuck with Gordon Brown and his flycatcher jaw munching antics and now we have the same Government thinking they know better than the history that America's prohibition Laws show didn't work and just as the prohibition backfired IMHO the taxation proposals by the wonderful UK Government will backfire on them in a similar way!

The UK Government Government what a joke they couldn't organise a Prayer meeting in a Nunnery! Or should that be a **** up in a Brewery? Turning us in to a laughing stock if you ask me.

I agree MrFlicks the whole thing is a joke one of their eg was a £8.99 bottle of vodka becoming £13.50 I think it was, which is disgusting how do they think this will help stop binge drinking if you want to get drunk you will what ever the price.

If this happens I need to look at moving because this country is getting worse and worse its got nothing to do with stopping binge drinking its just more tax to bail themselves out.

Also on the news a minute ago was one city who hope to stamp people with a special dye when they purchase cheap drinks at pubs so if they cause trouble they will know it was down to the cheap drink promotions, hmm what if they drink ten cans at home then have three cheap drinks at the pub?

    Stupid goverment!!!

Peeps, it's all good, i cannot wait for the ban to come in from Mr Brown, he is making the right choice and the right move, for the sake of the kids and for the sake of , the parents that are raging alcoholics and arent looking after their kids properly.... by sqeezing their pockets, it's the only way to stop this binge drinking.
I think it's disgusting that the amount of cheap alcohol that is available, and as vodka, and alcopops are the biggest sellers amongs the drinkers then it's only right and proper that it should be quelled, and quelled fast at that.

Not only that, it will give landlords a better chance of making a living, as if it's just as expensive to but from the shop, you may as well go out to the pub ?

Basically in a few years time, the only peeps that will be able to afford a drink are those that are earning.

and as for the black market cheap stuff, thats all thats needed is an excellent TV advert/campaign, showing the damage and slow cruel death that it causes..... that in itself will slow people down.

Good on you Gordon, i'm really glad you have made this choice.

One Eyed Fish - the youngsters will not be affected by the taxes! They will just buy from illegal sources that sell cheap booze.

For example all the teenagers that smoke round our area, they don't buy those cigarettes from shops they go to private houses and buy for half the price. The same thing will happen with alcohol. The tax is not going to affect under age drinkers as intended hardly at all.

If you think this move by the Government to add taxes (that just rip off the general public) will work and is a good move you are as naive as the Government are.

Black market alcohol it will be then as that is where the under age drinkers will turn to buy their alcohol due to these taxes.

Oh and One Eyed Fish - there is no ban - just more taxes!

It was worse than that MissTVWorlds - they are talking about Tattooing people in a similar way to what the Nazi's did to people during WW2 - Jeez when did Hitler take over this country?

I don't regard Gordon Brown being Prime Minister as a legitimate holding of office personally!

Well if thats the case ^ hosted, they should give customs and excise the right to enter any property/dwelling at any time without a warrant of search, to catch the people that are selling all the cigarettes and alcohol that is dangerous and more than likely a cheap copy that is damaging to the health much more than the real thing.
Then by giving them a hefty fine , they can at least claw some of the lost revenue back ?

Just today me & my friend were talking about all this cheap booze etc, and even she said they should put the prices up to cut back on alcoholism and kids drinking, and she drinks vodka herself, she swears by tescos cheap brand stuff, so there you go.

It's bad news, all these peeps getting steamed up on the weekends, that is costing the taxpayer a fortune for the police resources that are used up dealing with drunks and also the hospitals staff suffer , so really and truly , getting to the core or the root, dont you think a " soberer country " would be a more productive country ?

The way i look at it, in the future if we start now.....

Wollop the prices up on the booze, lets face it, the only people it's gonna affect is the skint people, which will make the mindset change.

Peeps who usually spend 50% of their money on cheap booze, will only be able to afford 25% for instance, so gradually and hopefully, they wont be able to sit drinking all day, and leaving their kids home from school etc, they will eventually either start to "sober up" or go completely skint and starve to death.

Alcohol isn't fussy about it's victims that it's going to ruin......

There is nothing constructive with alcohol, unless your in control, it's the biggest selling legal destructant i have ever encountered in my entire life.

I would like to see every single brand of cheap alcohol banned from the shelf, and only the best on sale, even if it went up to £20/30/40/50 a bottle ? why worry if you can afford it ?

It will force peeps into work to afford their habit for a start .

It's all about the right balance with the right law enforcements put in place.

I know i may sound like a right straight laced bitch, but i'm not, it's just that i have seen alcohol since i was a kid, and seen the destruction it causes.
