SEO - Google scrolling box

Just spotted something that wasn't there, as far as I know, before I took a bath.

Google seem to have added a scrolling box at the foot of the page for some search terms.

I Googled "SEO" and this results came up with a scrolling news box at the foot of the page >

MissTVWorlds did a search for "The X Factor" after we discovered this scrolling News box on Google only appears for certain search terms and it appeared for "The X Factor" to.

We concluded, after a little investigation, that it was only showing up for key phrases that are either in the News or are searched a lot.

Our own personal opinion here at Double T Ted's TVWorlds is that it is annoying!

We don't like un requested movement on web pages and so took an immediate dislike to the scrolling effect.

I am sure there are many who will completely disagree with that viewpoint and who will like the quirkiness of the scrolling effect but we will have to beg to differ on that opinion.

One of the things I like about Google is it's simplicity and lack of things like this, so quite what Google are thinking adding a scrolling News box to the foot of some searches when many people also like Google for it's simplicity is anyones guess?

Have you come across this new phenomenon yet and if so what do you think of it?
